A Century of Scouting!

A CENTURY OF INSTILLING VALUES AND HELPING BOYS BECOME MEN OF INTEGRITY AND HONOR

our history

Originally founded as Troop 1 of St. James no later than 1913, we became Troop 7 when the first Suffolk County Council renumbered all Suffolk County Boy Scout Troops by chronological order of their inception.  Unfortunately, early records of the Troop's original charters cannot be found.  To find out when Troop 7 was formed, we tried to find out when other Troops in Suffolk County were chartered.

BSA National Council provided us with this copy of the application of the Huntington Local Council (absorbed into the Suffolk County Council in the 1920's) dated January 13, 1914.  This application contains the signature of Hiram Paulding, Jr. - Scoutmaster.  Research shows he was the first Scoutmaster of Troop 1 of Huntington, which is now Troop 12.

Since Troop 7 was founded before Troop 12, Troop 7 has existed since at least 1913, and probably 1912 or even 1911, given Troop 3 in Smithtown was founded in September 1910.
